Wooden Overcoats

Best of iTunes | British Podcast Awards Winner

Wooden Overcoats is a podcast sitcom about competing funeral directors on an overlooked channel island. It is a lavishly produced audio comedy in eight episodes from the UK with a host of established and rising names.

Best Death Results + Name An Embalming Fluid

Last week, we set our Kickstarter backers a challenge: come up with a funny death: the best one would be used in Season 2. Thank you for all your entries, we had a great laugh. And now: the results!

In third place, it's Kristen Bailey (round of applause)! Kristen says:

"A young man was entombed in a chest freezer when he fell in whilst reaching for the last choc ice*. His perfectly preserved remains were discovered by his mother - a leading vulcanologist - on her return from Reykavik, where she'd been attending a global conference on volcanic lava fields. (Georgie: "And that's why his mum had gone to Iceland.") In order to thaw out the corpse more speedily, Antigone used warm embalming fluid (appropriately scented with cocoa butter and vanilla essence).

* or Arctic Roll, whichever is funnier. NB: Extra points if you can make one of the cast say 'Eyjafjallajökull'."

The cast do like points. We're signing them up to an Icelandic language course as we speak to meet your challenge. Thanks Kristen!

In second place, congratulations friend-of-the-show Lauren Shippen (round of applause!) who suggests:

"A villager slips and drowns in a particularly large puddle."

Lauren has a good handle on the physics of Piffling Vale. Cheers Lauren!

If you've not heard The Bright Sessions, Lauren's own drama podcast, we highly recommend it. Check it out here.

But there can only be one winner. In first place, congratulations, applause and trophies to ...

Ian R Buck!

"What if someone literally kicks a bucket and it bounces back to strike them in the temple?"

We love it! Head writer David is cursing himself for not thinking of it himself. If we hit our £8,000 target, keep your ears peeled in Season 2 for your excellent kick the bucket gag.

Thank you Ian and thank you everyone who participated!

(round of applause, round of applause, round of applause)

For an island somewhere between Britain and France, Piffling sure does get around. We've had donors from all over America, Norway, Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, Dubai... and those are just the ones we know of. Where are you donating from? Let us know in the comments!

The upshot of all this international travel the island is taking is that each Piffling Lives episode has been downloaded thousands of times in their first few hours!

156 attractive, intelligent, charming people have backed this Kickstarter. If everyone who downloads gives just a tiny bit, we would smash past not only our fundraising goal, but our first stretch goal and get to make that Christmas episode for all our donors. We can all afford different things. What is Wooden Overcoats worth to you? £1? A fiver?

New week, new competition!

Today we're all about the fluids. We think they're very important. Antigone loves to experiment with her embalming fluids, it makes the bodies smell nicer. Like a perfume, for corpses.

A good perfume needs a good name. Can you think of an embalming fluid name? What would you call yours? Eau de Ver-de-TerreObsidianAs Soon As Possible
